Faculty Bio

Dessislava Ivanova completed her BA degree in English Literature and Business Administration at the American University in Bulgaria. She obtained her MA in TESOL from Penn State University, USA, where she also completed PhD coursework in Applied Linguistics. Dessi has more than thirteen years of experience teaching English to international students from all over the world. She is currently working as a Pre-Faculty Level Head at Istanbul Sehir University, Istanbul, Turkey. She has also taught in the USA, Canada, and Bulgaria. Dessi has expertise in teaching general and academic English courses. She has been involved for a long time in teaching academic writing and oral communication courses to graduate and undergraduate students, as well as to students who are about to enter university faculty programs. Her experience also includes being a Writing Center Director, TOEFL, IETLS, and Critical Thinking instructor. When Dessi is not teaching, she is a student. She is currently being trained as an opera singer. She also loves yoga, meditation, reading, philosophy and nature.
