Faculty Bio

Dr. John Wallaart is an experienced Health and Safety practitioner with over 30 years background in multinational organizations and in Government. His industry experience is primarily in aluminum smelting but also in pulp and paper and in Government with a wide range of industries ranging from agriculture, construction, manufacturing, on-hire, health, aviation and others. His background is in applied technical and managerial roles including the use and management of chemicals, occupational hygiene (the science of the identification, measurement and control of industrial hazards) as well as the development and implementation of occupational health and safety intervention programs on a national scale. He has lectured in management and technical subjects to both graduate and post-graduate students in a range of tertiary education institutes particularly in International Management, Analytical Chemistry, Business Ethics and Occupational Health and Safety Management. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences. He has a PhD in Occupational Health and Safety (Australia), an MBA in International Management and various post-graduate Diplomas in Occupational Health and Safety, Chemistry and Management (New Zealand). In his spare time his interest is in aviation and he holds a Commercial Pilot's License and Instrument Rating.
