Faculty Bio
Dr. Michael Heng devotes most of his life to human capital management, community service, teaching and business enterprise. He is a Certified Management Consultant. Michael Heng specializes in empowering senior corporate leaders to leverage their human talent strategically for change management and corporate culture re-alignment. For him, the human talent is the ultimate high technology. His passion is developing talent advantages to engage, create and seize advantages in the marketplace eco-system environment through exceptional thinking and innovative methods. At the international level, Michael had consulted for the International Labor Organization (ILO), a United Nations agency, as its International HRM Consultant to the Governments of China, Vietnam and Hong Kong on various high-level assignments on HRM and core labor standards, particularly on tripartite social dialogue and the ILO decent work agenda, which are also major global corporate social responsibility (CSR) concerns of business excellence. He was a qualified SkillsFuture Mentor to Small Medium Enterprises (SME) with a Singapore Government agency tasked to facilitate SME development. He promotes education and learning to facilitate the cultivation of sustainability habits in corporations, people and communities worldwide. He has taught in Singapore’s top Nanyang Technological University as a tenured faculty for 15 years in the MBA Program, Quality Management, Business Excellence and HRM. He was a passionate teacher and developer of youth and senior business executives. He also pioneered Reality-Learning approaches in adult action learning, developed Blue Ocean Strategy curriculum for students and senior Business Executives; and supervised MBA Dissertations and led MBA Study Missions to 10+ countries on Competitive Strategies. In 2007, he was voted the Best and Most Popular Lecturer by his students. He is currently mostly involved as the Director and Principal Consultant of PeopleWorldwide Consulting, an Asia-centric human talent company, among his other companies. Active in grassroots participation and community service for the past 35+ years, Michael Heng was recognized on the National Day 2002 Honors List and awarded the Public Service Medal (PBM) for community service by the President of Singapore. He was conferred the CSR Leadership Award 2012 on World CSR Day 2012 in recognition of his contributions which has made a difference to people and the community. He also received a Global CSR Leadership Award at the Global CSR Summit 2012. And at the Philip Kotler’s World Marketing Summit 2013, he also received another CSR Leadership Excellence Award. In 2019, he also received the Earth Care Award for Sustainability Leadership in a climate-friendly business enterprise. He is an Advisor to World CSR Congress 2014. He was actively involved in education and learning as a Consultant to the inaugural Leaders-in-Education Program (LEP) in 2001 by the National Institute of Education for the training of potential school principals; and as Advisor to the Hanwang Forum on Post-Disaster Social Reconstructions in China. Michael also served previously as President of Nanyang Primary School Parents-Teachers Association. He was a Mentor with the Gifted Education Program (GEP) of the Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE). As President of Tomorrow’s Hope Society, a Singapore-based NGO, Michael was involved with disaster relief and community building projects at Nias, Timor Leste and Pakistan. He led and organized various humanitarian relief and community work missions to Timor Leste involving community building, refugee work and medical projects. He has served on the Management Committee of OnePeople.SG, the national racial harmony NGO with the mission to promote and celebrate the value of ethnic diversity and communicate the mutual benefits of cross-cultural, multi-racial and multi-ethnic communities. Michael Heng’s education background included a bachelor’s degree in Art, another with honors in Social Science in Sociology, a master’s degree from The London School of Economics and a Doctorate in Business Administration from New York City University.
