Faculty Bio

Paul Abutu is a Lawyer passionate about imparting knowledge. He began his academic pursuit with an LLB In Law from the premier Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, and attended the Nigerian Law school, where he was certified by the council of legal education as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme court of Nigeria after passing the Bar exam. He holds a master’s degree in international legal studies from Golden Gate University, San Francisco, California and a master’s in international Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defense Academy, Kaduna, Nigeria. He worked in several law offices in Nigeria namely, Arewa Chambers in Katsina, Reuben Atabo and Co. Kaduna, T.P Tochukwu and Co. Abuja before leaving for the United States. He also worked with Emley Law Office, LLP, San Francisco and Edgar Law Group, San Jose, California. His rich litigation experience both home and abroad equips him with practical knowledge of the law used to make an indelible impart to his students beyond the realms of substantive law. He has written several unpublished papers ranging from impact of Terrorism in Nigeria with Boko Haram as a case study, to sex-same marriage in Nigeria, comparison between Marriages under Shariah and English law and so forth. His time in San Francisco was memorable filled with remarkable experiences and exposed him to the rich history of the city and greatly influenced and broaden his worldview on racial diversity, minority inclusion especially on LGBTQ and the uniquely structured United States court system and jurisprudence. His hobbies include analyzing court decisions, political topics, international law, watching soccer and going on walks.
