Faculty Bio

Dr. Rockel Etienne has over two decades of experience as a university professor that includes oncampus and online teaching. As a Professor, she as taught graduate and undergraduate courses and served as a Doctoral Mentor, Chair and Committee Member. Her teaching experience expands in working with students within the United States, internationally and globally. She considers teaching to be a privilege in having the opportunity to positively impact the lives of students around the world. Dr. Etienne has received prestigious teaching honors in being awarded Distinguished Professor and is a two-time honoree as Faculty of the Year. In addition to her teaching experience, Dr. Etienne has over a decade of experience as a Curriculum Developer. Her experience also includes serving as an educational administrator and leader including positions of Program Chair, Associate Director and Vice President. Additional professional experience, outside of academia, includes working in the non-profit sector and government. This wide-range experience has been an enhancement within education in working with students providing real-world knowledge, examples and practical application strategies to assist them within their career and professional development. Academic achievements of Dr. Etienne include a Doctor of Education from Oklahoma State University, a Master of Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma and a Bachelor of Science in Business from Oklahoma City University. In addition, she has completed Harvard Graduate School of Education Mindfulness for Educators. Community service is a valuable component of Dr. Etienne’s life. Some of her philanthropic work includes serving as a Foster Care Review Board Member, Court Appointed Special Advocate in working abused and neglected children, Habitat for Humanity Committee Member, Advisory Council Member with Warrick Dunn Charities and Wish Granter with Make A Wish. Dr. Etienne has also served as a volunteer with Special Olympics and Girl Scouts. In honor of her community service, Dr. Etienne is an esteemed recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ‘Living the Dream Award’ and the ‘President’s Volunteer Service’ Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Etienne is a Servant Leader who believes in the power of faith and taking your gifts and talents and positively impacting the lives of others.
