ACCT 820 Financial Statement Misrepresentation


This course is designed to equip those who will review and evaluate financial statements the skills to understand the complexity of financial statement misrepresentation. Students will benefit from an enhanced appreciation of what financial figures mean and how they can be manipulated in order to perpetrate fraud.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Identify, using the different red flags of misrepresentation, the most commonly committed financial statement fraud.
2. Detect fraudulent schemes, including misrepresentation, in financial statements.
3. Understand the implications and effects of committing misrepresentation in financial
reporting.
4. Develop means and controls to prevent, through early detection, cases of misrepresentation and other financial statement fraud.
