Course Description

DPSY 806 Experimental Psychology explores the areas in psychology that employ the experimental method, including in the psychological processes of perception, attention, action, learning, memory, and cognition. In this course, students analyze the research methods of studies on experimental psychology, with attention to theoretical orientation, design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation of psychological experiments. Throughout this course, students learn the process of experimental studies in psychology, from articulating a research question to formulating a hypothesis, implementing an experiment, and analyzing the results. Students also learn to harness the appropriate theories to analyze and understand experimental objectives and methods (DPSY 806 Research Design & Analysis).

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop a scientific understanding of experimental research methods and findings in psychology.
  • Develop critical thinking skills in analyzing experimental studies in psychology and contrasting explanations for many issues.
