Course Description

GBH 554 Global Health Promotion is a special topic course determined by the student’s needs
and interests in consultation with the Public Health faculty member. This course on global health
promotion focuses on the relatively new domain of health promotion and disease prevention
globally. In this course, students learn the most robust evidence about the approaches that
promote health and reduce morbidity and mortality in different areas of global health. Students
also explore health promotion strategies and approaches through the theoretical lenses of
behavior change, human rights, and the use of cutting-edge technology. Consequently, this
course is organized according to four themes: foundational theories and models, strategies,
scientific studies, and best practices in global health promotion. (Formerly GBH 554 Special
Topics in International Public Health).
