LST 530 Intellectual Property


Emphasis is on the protection of IP rights in writings, creative expression, inventions, software, trade designations, and trade secrets. The course also covers intangible intellectual products by federal copyright, trademark, patent, and unfair competition law, as well as by state trade secrecy law.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the role and nature of intellectual property.
  • Learn about of copyright, moral rights, patents, trademarks and related actions, designs law and confidential information.
  • Understand the policy issues affecting IP law. Identify relevant IP issues and analyze statutory and case law relevant to this body of law.
  • Contribute to ongoing academic and community debates regarding intellectual property law.
