Course Description

MATESOL 602 introduces students to principal theories, models, and research methods in second language acquisition (SLA), with a focus on the English language. The course explores general issues in teaching SLA, the roles of the native language, and the impact of the second language on the first language. Topics include universals, age effects, inputs and interactions, processing, and attributes of acquiring phonology, lexicon, and syntax among second language learners.
