MEd 558 Politics and Philosophy of Education


From a cross-cultural, historical, political, and philosophical framework, students will discuss the impact of economics, culture, and power dynamics on the education process. Students will explore the basic educational visions and social philosophies that underlie various reform efforts and education policies across the political continuum.

  • Trace the development of philosophical, political and ethical theories of education with an emphasis on higher education.
  • Compare and contrast philosophical theories of education.

  • Articulate the impact of philosophical, political and ethical theories that affect higher education in a global context.
