MEd 661 Introduction to Quantitative Methods in Educational Research


Students will survey quantitative methods in research as they are currently applied in the study of the processes, effects, and contexts of education. This course introduces students to research design, exploratory data analysis, and elementary statistics. It also covers computer-based data analysis methods.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Gain an introduction to quantitative methods for research in education and the social sciences.
  • Analyze quantitative methods in research as they are currently applied in the study of the processes, effects, and contexts of education.
  • Learn the logic of research design, graphical and tabular displays of univariate and bivariate distributions, statistical inference and significance testing, contingency tables, t-tests, ANOVA, and regression. Learn how to apply SPSS to quantitative studies.
