MUS 805 Ethnomusicology

This course presents music as an aspect of human culture, aids students in cross-cultural understanding, and examines broad historical, cultural, and social contexts of music. Students become familiar with basic musical concepts and explore traditional, religious, folk, art, and popular musical styles of several countries.

Learning Outcomes:

  • To introduce students to the initial understanding of the history of hymnology and its mechanisms that make up good hymns.
  • To learn the diverse tools for successful use of congregational hymn-singing in the current day of worship service.
  • To increase information in knowing what liturgical seasons can grasp what hymns to sing as a congregation during the year.
