MUS 820 History of Opera

This course will commence students to the sequential progress of opera, attempting to credit the works of the present collection as well as historically noteworthy works that are hardly ever heard in performance today.

Learning Outcomes:

  • To introduce the evolution of the form as well as the issues that arises from such historical methodologies.
  • To learn the regional, historical, and personal stylistic differences between operas.
  • To gain knowledge from the role of opera in the development of music in general.
