Dean of Health Sciences

The Dean of the School of Health Sciences will be responsible to the Provost and Chancellor for the academic leadership and management of the faculty.

  • The Dean will co-ordinate the academic planning and any resource allocation to the School when required and any other academic services as allocated.
  • The Dean is part of the Senior Management team within the university, acting under the delegated authority of the President and Provost.
  • The principal role of the Dean is to assist the faculty to achieve their academic objectives as effectively as possible. A second role is to contribute towards policies which enhance the effectiveness of the university and to counsel and represent the university as appropriate.

Position Requirements

These are determined by the Provost and Chancellor of the university and include at least:

  • To provide effective academic leadership and management of the faculty.
  • To develop, implement, and maintain an academic plan of the faculty.
  • To administer any resources provided and provide any administrative functions.
  • To chair any council or meeting as required.
  • To represent the faculty and the university internally and externally.
  • To ensure adherence to the policies of the university and any legal requirements placed on the university.
  • To encourage staff development and a high level of staff performance.
  • To provide any advice sought to the Chancellor and Provost on matters related to the faculty.
  • To undertake any agreed specified duties specified by the Chancellor or the Provost.
  • Positioning the faculty with regard to research, teaching, and community interaction where appropriate.
  • Ensuring the well-being of staff and students where appropriate.
  • Develops academic programs for the university and recommends implementation of additional courses.
  • Serves as liaison with accrediting agencies who evaluate academic programs.
  • Complete all reports and updates as outlined in the IQAS Manual.
  • Successfully hiring and onboarding of new faculty.
  • The Dean is the main contact person for all aspects of the new faculty onboarding process.

Other requirements

  • Return all communications within 24 hours.
  • Ability to attend meetings in the evenings and on weekends (when needed).
  • The Dean provides support for students, collaborates with other departments and may work directly with students.
  • The Dean establishes a culture of innovation and potential commercialization in the faculty where appropriate.

Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills

Minimum Requirements:

  • Doctorates or another terminal degree in a health-related field.
  • 10 years of experience managing in a health-related field and/or managing faculty in a health-related school.
  • Online teaching experience

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Learning Management Systems experience such as Sycamore, Canvas, Blackboard, Angel, or Moodle.
