Course Description

This course explores major issues in urban education, such as poverty, racial and ethnic diversity at the primary and secondary levels, and strategies to improve academic achievement in urban schools. This course teaches students about social, political, cultural, and educational research and theory that apply to urban education. This course also covers strategies to improve urban education at the classroom, school, and policy levels.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn about the broader urban context of primary and secondary schooling.
  • Understand research, theories, and strategies for fostering resilience among urban learners.
  • Develop knowledge about the different attributes, skills, and dispositions that urban teachers need to effectively teach urban learners.
