Course Description

B.Ed 305 Introduction to Learning Disabilities introduces students to special education for students with learning disabilities. This course offers students opportunities to critically analyze various frameworks, theories, and legislation influencing the historical development of the field, as well as evidence-based approaches to inclusive classroom practices. Topics covered in this course include an overview of the field of learning disabilities, student study team processes, classroom management for teachers, and specific instructional strategies for students with learning disabilities.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Critically analyze how various models of disability influence the understanding of students with learning disabilities.
  • Develop an understanding of legislation and regulation on special education in select countries.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in using instructional teaching strategies and approaches for students with learning disabilities, given diverse concepts.
  • Develop requisite skills in working efficiently and effectively with a multidisciplinary team in planning and executing educational programs involving service-oriented professionals, parents, and school and community resources.
