Course Description

This course explores the attributes of children and adolescents with academic and behavioral needs and the evidence-based best practices that support diverse learners in educational settings. This course is designed to help future teachers develop a practical working knowledge of classroom and behavior management principles. Through this course, students learn about behavior management models, individualized support for students with behavioral problems, how to reduce undesirable behaviors, classroom supports, and positive behavior interventions for the classroom. (Formerly B.Ed 463 Learning and Behavior Problems)

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop classroom management skills required for professional, legal, and ethical best practices to address learners’ behavioral issues.
  • Understand strategies for promoting a sense of belonging and accepting diversity among students.
  • Develop knowledge and abilities for implementing processes and systems in assessing, planning, and providing academic and social skill instruction to support positive behavior in all students.
  • Understand healthy learning environments to ensure students’ academic, physical, emotional, and social well-being and learning.
