Course Description

This course introduces students to effective teaching and learning strategies. Through this course, students analyze different instructional approaches; ways of engaging with student learning; and strategies to plan, implement, and evaluate teaching and learning programs. This course highlights the historical and philosophical perspectives of the learning and teaching processes. Other topics covered include the context of schooling, assessments, and educators as learners and leaders. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand teaching as a standards-oriented profession.
  • Critically analyze philosophical and historical perspectives of learning and teaching.
  • Critically analyze instructional approaches for student learning that challenges students of varying abilities and characteristics.
  • Develop skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating teaching and learning programs.
