Course Description

BHIT 226 Tourism and Community Development explores community-based approaches to tourism planning and governance, emphasizing community development. In this course, students explore community participation in destination decision-making as one of the central tenets of sustainable tourism and the importance of tourism in less-developed countries in poverty reduction. Throughout the course, a recurring theme would be appropriate tourism governance for effective community-based tourism. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn the rationales, methods, and impacts of community-based terrorism, emphasizing development.
  • Appreciate the importance of tourism in community development.
  • Examine different theoretical approaches that empower tourism companies to positively impact communities.
  • Demonstrate the capability to develop tourism projects that contribute to community well-being while adhering to relevant legislative frameworks.
