Name: Health Literacy
Course Number: BHP 403

Course Description

BHP 403 Health Literacy explores the knowledge and skills associated with finding, understanding, and harnessing information to improve personal health and navigate healthcare systems. Through this course, students learn new ways of thinking about how people engage with information about and for health, both as users and providers of information. Students also learn about the challenges of low health literacy, including higher healthcare costs, increased re-hospitalization rates, lesser use of preventive services, and increased morbidity and mortality. This course captures the wealth of thinking about health literacy by presenting perspectives of international researchers and practitioners working on health literacy in diverse settings and contexts.
