Statistical Modeling in Epidemiology
Name: Statistical Modeling in Epidemiology
Course Number: BHS 305
Credit(s): 3

Course Description

This course introduces students to statistical approaches and their applications in epidemiology for preventing and controlling public health problems. The course emphasizes distinguishing different models used in testing hypotheses of epidemiological studies and selecting appropriate methods to address specific research questions. Through hands-on exercises, students learn to perform simple statistical computations and analyses. (Formerly BHS 305 Introduction to Epidemiology and Biostatistics)

Learning Outcomes:

  • Select and perform suitable statistical models for continuous, binary, and survival outcome variables in common situations.
  • Critically interpret linear, logistic, and survival models.
  • Proficiently utilize model-based approaches in exploring interactions and confounding.
  • Adopt the principles of good practice in statistical modeling and validation.
