Course Description

This course is a special topic course determined by the student’s needs and interests in consultation with the Health Sciences faculty members. Healthcare quality is no longer limited to the manager’s purview but has become a cornerstone of all healthcare practices. This course provides an in-depth examination of healthcare quality, including essential principles, techniques, and theories pertinent to quality improvement in all aspects of health care. Students learn to apply quality improvement theories and evidence-based practice to pressing quality issues confronting health and public health providers (Formerly BHS 498 Special Topics in Health Sciences).

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn and discuss the theories, methods, and tools for continuous quality improvement in health care.
  • Understand the roles of healthcare professionals in cultivating and sustaining a culture of safety and quality.
  • Critically analyze quality management models used in health care organizations.
  • Understand the impacts of emerging trends on quality in the healthcare environment.
