Course Description

BSN 325 Philosophy of Nursing Practice explores the essential features of nursing practice from a philosophical perspective. In particular, students learn the philosophy of the highest-quality nursing practice, emphasizing how nursing should be practiced. This course introduces an analytical nursing practice model to serve as a framework to delineate critical and essential elements of nursing practice and serve as a guidepost in addressing clinical problems. (Formerly BSN 325: Philosophy of the Human Person)

  • Learn to critically integrate nursing knowledge, patterns of knowing, and situational contingencies to make nursing a professional practice.
  • Critically appraise the philosophical foundations of nursing practice.
  • Understand the assumptions, propositions, and domain concepts of conceptual models, frameworks, and theories in nursing practice.
  • Critically assess nursing knowledge regarding nurses’ roles in interdisciplinary teams within health care systems.
