Course Description

BSN 401 Person-Centered Nursing Practice examines theories, frameworks, and policies that focus on humanizing the nursing care experience. Through this course, students learn how to deliver nursing care at a level and approach that treats people, particularly patients and their families, as individuals. Students explore person-centered care and the accompanying respect for rights as a person, building mutual trust and understanding, and developing therapeutic relationships. This course emphasizes a standard of care that reflects these principles and how these principles are applied to nursing care practice. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the theories, frameworks, and policies focusing on humanizing the nursing care experience.
  • Demonstrate the ability to plan and document nursing care that is person-centered and responsive to peoples’ risks, needs, and preferences.
  • Learn and discuss the nursing role in delivering person-centered nursing care across healthcare settings.
  • Understand the principles of care and partnership working with people and carers to support the planning and delivery of person-centered care.
