Course Description

BSN 442 Clinical Leadership in Nursing explores the leadership constructs applied to the nursing profession, particularly from the perspective of promoting better healthcare. Moreover, this course examines clinical‐level and healthcare empowerment through nursing leadership and its positive impacts on the quality of care provided to patients in various healthcare environments. Students learn about the qualities of clinical leaders in nurses and the experience of being a clinical leader. Topics covered in this nursing course are organized into three themes: clinical leaders are role models, clinical leadership tools, and clinical leadership issues. (Formerly BSN 442: Nursing Care Leadership)

  • Learn and discuss leadership theories and styles as applied to clinical practice in nursing.
  • Understand the attributes and functions of the nurse leader across various healthcare settings.
  • Critically analyze nursing leadership issues and how to surmount these issues.
  • Understand the clinical tools that enhance nursing leadership.
