Course Description

CIS 100 Introduction to Computers introduces students to computers and computing and their tremendous capabilities. This course teaches students about electronic computers, including number systems and codes, fixed point arithmetic, floating point arithmetic, decimal arithmetic, memories, input and output devices and I/O modes, software applications, and information systems fundamentals. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the history of computers and how they evolved to their present forms.
  • Learn the fundamentals of computer organization and architecture.
  • Develop proficiency in using common software applications.
  • Gain a solid understanding of general computer concepts, basic architecture, and numerical computation.
