Course Description

ECON 367 Law and Economics introduces students to the intersections between law and economics. In particular, this course examines the intersections between civil law, codified by statutes, and common law, enshrined in precedential judicial decisions. Students also learn the economics of law relative to the legal organization of businesses, taxation, and competition from an economic perspective.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the intersections between the law and economics.
  • Critically analyze the intersections between both civil law and common law.
  • Understand the economics of law relative to businesses and taxation from an economic perspective.
  • Learn how legal and economic theory align to incentivize individuals to make decisions benefiting all of society in cases where narrow self-interest would normally deviate from this path.
