Course Description

ECON 446 International Economics systematically explores the primary areas of the world economy, namely trade, investment, finance, and policy, and how they impact each other. This course applies theories to international economic events, issues, and trends. Notably, increasing globalization has transformed the international economic environment, making it more dynamic and impacted by real-world developments in business, politics, and finance. Consequently, this course encompasses real-world developments, scientific study findings, and scholarly discourse. Topics in this course are organized according to four themes: modeling international economics, international trade, macroeconomic dimensions of international trade and finance, and international factor movements and international business. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Critically analyze key areas of the world economy, namely, investment, trade, finance, and policy.

  • Learn and discuss international theories and apply them to events, issues, and trends.

  • Understand the international economic environment and the linkages between political, financial, and diplomatic developments and their impacts on international business.

  • Critically analyze the issues surrounding cross-border movements of labor and capital, international trade flows, and global economic institutions.
