Course Description

This course will include expository writing as well as the development and revision of paragraphs in essays. There will be various lessons that will be taught, like rhetorical strategies, reading, and discussion of selected essays. This course will also focus on establishing skills in documented critical writing. Further, it will teach students to have a background in fiction, drama, and poetry.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Students will learn to identify, understand, and evaluate arguments through critical thinking and problem-solving techniques.
  • Reading and Writing Proficiency: Emphasis on reading and writing as fundamental tools for developing well-organized and coherent ideas in written form.
  • Expressing Ideas from Readings: Training in expressing main ideas from readings using summary, paraphrase, and quotations.
  • Development of Original Ideas: Encouraging the development of original thoughts in response to readings.
  • Proofreading Skills: Focus on three main areas of proofreading – formality, tone, sentence punctuation, along with grammar and spelling.
  • Correct Citation and Referencing: Instruction in the use of correct citation and reference styles to uphold academic integrity.
